The Boys & Girls Club of Central Virginia will host the 2018 Cops 4 Kids Day on Friday, May 4th from 4:00-6:00pm at the Cherry Avenue Boys & Girls Club at 1000B Cherry Avenue.
This event is sponsored by the Charlottesville Police Foundation and is for all Boys & Girls Club members of Charlottesville, Albemarle, Orange and Madison, as well as local children from all Charlottesville City Schools and the surrounding areas. We anticipate over 400 children to participate.
Cops 4 Kids Day is an opportunity for local children ages 5-18 to learn how to interact and be comfortable with police while understanding their importance within our community, as well as for police officers to get to know these youngest members of our community in a fun and relaxed setting.
At the event, the Department will show off its K-9 unit, motorcycle and SWAT teams, talk about bike safety, and generally make itself available to the kids of the Boys & Girls Club and the neighborhoods near Downtown.
Officers and kids will interact together as they visit different stations such as a bounce house maze race, limbo contest, police bicycle course, water gun target challenge, and corn hole competition.
Kids can get police themed temporary tattoos, teens will play in a basketball tournament against the police, and prizes and t-shirts will be given out.
The Charlottesville Police Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization of local citizens who help provide our police with the tools and training they need to do their best work.
The Foundation supports the Charlottesville Police Department by providing resources for innovative programs to improve public safety, such as the Cops 4 Kids Day.
Visit our Cops 4 Kids Day page for more information about this program and our fundraising drive. Volunteers are also needed and can sign up here.
Cops 4 Kids is yet another opportunity for the department to connect in a positive way with the community. It is so important that young people begin to see police officers as leaders within their community that can be trusted and relied upon.
This program has been a continued success each year, and the CPF cannot make it happen without the B&GC program staff, the Charlottesville Police Officers, community volunteers, and donors, whose generosity and enthusiasm have kept this program running each year.
We also anticipate the support and participation of Charlottesville City Council members and the City Manager's office at the event this year.
